& Puppies
Yoga is one of those gifts that truly belongs to everybody. Young, seasoned, flexible, stiff-as-a-board — it does not matter who you are, your mat has a space for you. And these days, you cannot walk a single block in any major city without finding a yoga studio, a yoga event, a yoga influencer, or a yoga pop-up somewhere on your screen or your street corner. The practice is everywhere. Which, honestly? Is beautiful. But here is the thing nobody likes to say out loud: if you want to stay committed to any wellness practice for the long haul — for years, not just a season — you have to keep it fresh. You have to shake it up. You have to change it up.
Yoga in your living room? Peaceful. Yoga on the beach at sunrise? Breathtaking. Yoga in a heated studio with a killer playlist? A whole vibe. But yoga with puppies?! Friends — that is something else entirely. That is the kind of experience that stops your scroll, makes you look twice, and then has you texting three people immediately because you simply cannot keep it to yourself. That is exactly what we are here to unpack today, and I promise you — it is every bit as magical as it sounds.
Exploring the fitness landscape one experience at a time — from gyms to wellness retreats, boot camps to, yes, puppy yoga. A living testimony that fitness is a life you choose to live every single day.
Hello, everyone! I am Ms. Sheila Hicks, and I am proud to say I am among the world's first Fit-Venturers. What does that mean, exactly? It means I have been genuinely blessed to travel across the great state of Texas — and soon, the world — alongside my son, experiencing the full, beautiful spectrum of trainers, gyms, and health and wellness professionals who are serving our fitness community every single day. This isn't a side hobby. This is a calling. I am a living product of what I pursue, and through this pursuit, I have built something shining — a light for my family to follow, a standard of living fit that I now get to share with all of you. That is the gift. That is the mission. And today's Fit-Venture? It might just be the most joyful one yet.
Now, this particular Fit-Venture did not require me to pack a bag or book a flight. Sometimes the treasure is closer than you think. Whether you are coming from the south side of Texas or North Texas, Mansfield, Texas is absolutely in your alley — and if you have never ventured out there, this might be your sign to go.
Deep in the backwoods of Mansfield, past the beautiful homes and the rolling countryside, the open trees and the wide Texas sky, you will find The Hope Place. And the moment you arrive, you understand immediately that this is not your average wellness studio. This is a full sensory experience before a single pose is struck.
The Hope Place is a wellness space that operates on a genuinely unique philosophy: they work with their clients' minds — teaching them to heal — so that counseling itself becomes unnecessary in the future. Keeping clients dependent is not part of their model. Their goal is to empower you toward your own wholeness, and their space reflects exactly that. The log cabin carries a warmth that wraps around you the moment you step inside. The modern touches lift it without losing its soul. And the open outdoor foyer — surrounded by the sounds of nature, a light breeze threading through the trees, the quiet of the countryside holding everything together — creates a setting that begins the healing before you have even unrolled your mat.
"The Hope Place is one of those rare wellness environments where the space itself is doing a portion of the healing work. Before the class began, before the instructor introduced herself, before a single puppy was unleashed — I already felt something release in my chest."
Every so often, The Hope Place hosts special events that spotlight their unique wellness services in the most unexpectedly wonderful ways. And this one? This one brought the house down. They blend the calming, centering effort of yoga with the warm, pure-joy energy of having the most absurdly adorable fur creatures trotting around you while you try to hold a Warrior II. That's right. Puppy yoga.
I had seen goat yoga before. I had heard the concept. I had even quietly judged it from afar, if I am being honest with you. But puppy yoga? I genuinely did not know what to expect. The format, it turns out, is elegantly simple: bring in the instructor, gather everyone together in one cozy, intentional space, and unleash the puppies to mosey around entirely as they please. No choreography. No agenda. Pure chaos dressed in the sweetest fur coats you have ever seen — and it is absolutely, completely, over-the-moon perfect.
I was elated with joy and washed in this strange, calming bliss simultaneously — a combination I did not know was possible until I was living it. It is the kind of experience that everyone, and I do mean everyone, must have at least once. It was warm enough to make you grin from ear to ear, and just challenging enough to make you pause, set down your inner critic, and genuinely marvel at the people around you who were somehow holding their poses while a golden retriever puppy investigated their left elbow. It is joyful. It is freeing. And it is surprisingly good for your soul.
Now, an experience this layered requires a very specific kind of instructor. Too laser-focused on the poses, and you lose the whole magic of what the puppies bring. Too distracted by the puppies, and you walk away feeling like you just attended a very cute playdate — but not a workout. Threading that needle takes real skill and real instinct. Enter Ms. Kimberly Stratman.
A world-traveled instructor who has led classes on beaches, at sea, and aboard cruise ships — someone who knows how to hold the moment while moving through it. The ideal guide for an experience where presence is everything.
Kimberly is an international yogi guide who has led classes on the beach, at sea, and yes — even aboard a cruise ship. She has spent years learning how to take in the scenery, hold the moment, and still guide her students through the next breath, the next stretch, the next pose. That is a rare and specific kind of teaching gift, and it was on full display at The Hope Place.
She was AWESOME — and I do not use that word lightly. Ms. Stratman had this beautiful instinct for knowing exactly when to let someone lean over and find a puppy's tickle spot, and exactly when to gently redirect that energy into the next stretch. She never broke the flow. She never rushed the moment. And then she would land the perfect little joke — perfectly timed, perfectly pitched — to acknowledge whatever puppy moment was happening in the room, give the fur babies their shine, and loop everyone right back into the practice. Effortless. Intentional. And deeply human in the best way. This is what great instruction looks like when the environment is the co-teacher.
"At one point a puppy wandered right into Ms. Stratman's personal space during a demonstration — and without missing a single cue, she acknowledged it, smiled, made the whole room laugh, and guided us right into the next pose. That's not just good teaching. That's mastery."
