Hey FITventurers,
Iโm back at it again with another rendezvous inside the world of sweat, steel, and stamina. This weekโs FITventure wasnโt plannedโit actually fell into my lap thanks to Mom, who somehow manages to dig up these fitness gems. And let me tell you, this time, I stumbled into not only a powerful workout but also a familiar face whoโs been making serious waves in the fitness community.
This one had all the elements: live music, a crowd hungry for intensity, a trainer who commands attention, and a workout built to test your limits. And best believeโit was exciting, exhausting, and a little bit extra (Iโll explain).

The Setup: How I Ended Up Here
The week was moving smooth when Mom hit me up with some last-minute intel: a big event was going down in Duncanville, Texas. At first, I wasnโt planning on linking up with her, but my curiosity got the best of me. I hopped in the Juggernaut (aka my Jeep) and pulled up.
The spot was tucked inside an industrial business parkโyou know, the kind of place where you expect to see offices, warehouses, and shipping trucks, not a full-on fitness takeover. But the closer I got, the clearer it became: something big was going down.
The music was bumping, the crowd was buzzing, and the energy was pouring out of the building before I even walked in. Thatโs when I knewโoh yeah, this is about to be one of those workouts.
And luckily, I pulled up just in time for the start of what I like to call โthe torture treatment.โ

Enter: Chris Polk
The man behind the madness? Chris Polkโa name thatโs starting to ring louder in Dallas fitness circles. If youโve ever caught a glimpse of his arm, youโll quickly notice the signature Omega Psi Phi branding, which tells you everything about the kind of intensity heโs packing.
I first met Chris years back in a mainstream franchise gym. Back then, he was already a presenceโloud, confident, and magnetic. He wasnโt just working out; he was building a vibe, drawing people in with his energy. Fast forward, and now heโs leveled up. Today, he runs Polk Fitness in Duncanville, TX, a space with his name on the wall, his quotes on the banners, and his vision in every corner.
And on this particular Saturday, Polk Fitness was hosting โThe Big Show,โ complete with a live DJ, cameras, vendors, and a crowd of about 55+ ready to go all-in. Chris wasnโt alone, eitherโhe teamed up with another powerhouse trainer known as The Corporate Athlete (more on him in a future FITventure write-up).
The Space & The Vibe

Walking in, I was hit with a garage-style setup that just felt right for this kind of event. Turf stretched across the floor, weight racks lined the sides, and the open concept gave it the raw, gritty energy of a true grindhouse gym. It was built for movement, built for sweat.
The crowd was already hyped, waiting for Chris to get them started. And once the whistle blew, it was game on. Chris had the stations set up bootcamp-styleโeach one designed to push you to the max. He didnโt believe in โfillerโ exercises; every movement had a purpose.
And hereโs where Polk Fitness stood out: the supersets were masterfully put together. You werenโt just going through the motions; you were forced to attack every station at full throttle.
Example? Battle ropes for 15 secondsโnonstopโfollowed immediately by a lap around the building. No shortcuts, no time to catch your breath. It was the kind of setup where the workout itself policed your effort. Try to cheat? Not happening. Those ropes demand full energy, and the Texas sun on your back during that lap makes sure you hustle right back inside.
Brutal? Yes. Effective? Absolutely.
Chrisโs Training Style: The Good & The โEhโ
Let me be real: Chris Polk is not your average trainer. His energy is relentless, his voice commands the room, and his style is to push you past what you think you can do.
He doesnโt just correct form; he calls you out. Heโll spot you from across the gym, cut through the crowd, and get right in your face with a rhetorical question that makes you second-guess why you werenโt giving it your all. Itโs uncomfortableโbut thatโs the point. He forces you to check yourself.
And I respected that, especially when he worked with Mom. He didnโt baby her, but he didnโt overstep either. He pushed her, challenged her, and made her work, but he also adjusted weights and movements to match her needs. That balance between barking orders and showing empathy is a rare quality in trainers. Huge props there.
Now, hereโs where the โehโ comes in. Chris is big on intensityโlike, 113% all the time. And to make sure he drove that point home, he had this habit of cutting the music mid-workout to give motivational speeches and reset the class.
The first time? Cool. It set the tone.
The second time? Still effective.
By the third and fourth? I was like, cโmon, manโletโs keep it moving.
Donโt get me wrong, the speeches were fire. But when the supersets are already this goodโalready forcing maximum effortโthose breaks started feeling like lost momentum. For me, it was the one drawback in an otherwise stellar setup.
The Workout Grind
The stations ran like clockwork: ropes, sled pushes, squats, shuttle runs, dumbbell circuitsโthe kind of combinations that leave you drenched and questioning your life choices.
What I loved most was the creativity. This wasnโt a cookie-cutter bootcamp. Every station felt intentional, every sequence designed to burn energy from a different angle. You couldnโt โgo easyโ on any of them because they complemented each other so well.
Thatโs why the breaks stood out even more to me. With the workout programmed this tightly, you didnโt need the extra stops. The design itself was enough to separate the half-committed from the fully engaged.
Still, when the whistle blew, when Chris shouted, when the DJ dropped another trackโyou felt like you were in a full-on sports arena. It was electric.
Professionalism & Presence
Chris knows his stuff. Period. His technical knowledge, his ability to read the room, and his confidence all come together to create an experience. He isnโt just teaching exercises; heโs curating an environment.
And his presence is commanding. From the jump, he had the entire roomโs attention. He wasnโt competing with the DJ, the cameras, or the vendors. He was the main event. That kind of control doesnโt happen by accidentโitโs the product of years in the game, honing both skill and style.
What impressed me most was his adaptability. He could flip the switch between drill sergeant and supportive coach seamlessly, depending on who he was addressing. That shows maturity and professionalism.
Final Rating:
So where does Chris Polkโs โBig Showโ at Polk Fitness land on the FITventure scale?
- Workout Design: 5/5
- Energy & Intensity: 5/5
- Trainer Engagement: 5/5
- Environment & Setup: 5/5
- Flow of Class: 4/5
Overall: 4.8/5
The only deduction comes from the repeated music cuts and speeches, which broke the flow of an otherwise perfect bootcamp. Outside of that, Chris delivered everything you could want: a hard-hitting, well-structured, high-energy workout that challenges every level of fitness.
Would I go back? Absolutely. Would I recommend you pull up with me? Without a doubt. Just be readyโChris doesnโt play games.
