This Week’s Challenge: The Mourning 100
This week, we tested the “Mourning 100,” a trending workout that claims to kickstart your metabolism and keep your body tight with minimal effort. The rules are simple: wake up, don’t eat a thing, and perform this two-motion movement 100 times consecutively without stopping. Sounds easy, right?
Here’s how it works:

- Start in an active skip motion—bouncing lightly on the balls of your feet.
- Combine two upper-body movements:
- A lateral arm spread followed by a clap under the knee.

- Two elbow-to-knee twists.

- Repeat this sequence in a continuous flow until you hit 100 reps.
Now, if you know me, you know I don’t do boring. Performing the same motion 100 times can turn my brain into oatmeal, so I highly recommend mixing it up with these variations:
- Active One-Leg Toe Touch: After the lateral arm raise and under-knee clap, kick your leg forward and reach for your toe. Hello, hamstring activation!

- Standing Crunch Variation: Instead of twisting, ball up your fists in front of your face and engage your abs with a controlled crunch.

Throw these in, and boom—you’ve got yourself a spicy workout that keeps things fun and effective!
Why HIIT (or LIIT?) is a Game-Changer
High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is a powerhouse when it comes to sculpting lean muscle, but this workout leans more toward LIIT (Low-Intensity Interval Training). While it’s not as intense as sprinting or heavy lifting, it still activates those fast-twitch muscle fibers, which are responsible for explosive power and that toned, athletic look.
Fun fact: this style of training is actually how Ashton Hall, Yes, Mr. Morning water bowl Routine himself (you know, the transformation king) built his shredded physique. The best part? These moves are deceptively simple. They don’t leave you gasping for air, but they do get your body moving, metabolism fired up, and muscles tight and toned. These style workouts are the basis of how he started his fitness career.
Intensity Level Rating
On a scale from 1 to 10, the Mourning 100 sits at about a 3 in its basic form. Even if you go beast mode and really power through the twists and kicks, the intensity caps around a 5.
Translation?
- It’s great for beginners looking to ease into fitness.
- It’s perfect for those of us who want a quick, effective morning routine without feeling drained.
- It’s an awesome add-on to a more intense workout.
So no excuses—everyone can try it!
