Every week, I drop a Fit-Challenge for me, my son, and my community to take on – a little friendly competition, a whole lot of sweat, and proof that this mama’s still got it. And this week? Oh, we took it back old school with an ab challenge to the classic fitness anthem: “We Will Rock You!”

Let me tell you now… this song will rock your core if you let it.


How to “Boom Boom Clap”

Grab the track on your favorite streaming platform and let Freddie Mercury set the tempo for your burn. The iconic Boom Boom Clap is all the cadence you need.

Starting Position:

  • Sit on the floor with your legs extended in front of you.
  • Lift your feet off the ground and balance with your torso upright.
  • Keep your core engaged – this is your “resting” position… if you can even call it that.

The Movement:
Every “Boom Boom Clap” signals your next move.

  • Boom: Open your legs
  • Boom: Close your legs
  • Clap: Hit a high pike (knees to chest)
  • Return to start and REPEAT – for the entire song.

Can you last all the way through NONSTOP?


Mother-Son Match: Who Rocked It Harder?

Now, here’s how it played out for us: Me and my son squared up and went head-to-head. We decided to do it rounds-style. Whoever dropped first gave up a point – first to 3 wins the bout.

I came in with confidence – I mean, ab challenges are kinda my thing. So yeah, I took the first round. But that second round? He turned it up and I had to admit a temporary defeat. (Hey, I’m honest!)

But the third? Ohhh, I gave it everything. Pushed past the burn, focused my breath, and just locked in. And what do you know – he dropped mid-laugh after catching a glimpse of my determined “warrior face.” Whether he lost from laughter or lactic acid, I’ll take the win, thank you very much!


Modifications for All Levels:

If you’re not ready to float through the full song, don’t worry – we meet you where you are.

  • Beginner Mod: Let your feet lightly tap the ground between each round.
  • Single Leg Mod: Only lift one leg at a time – alternate each round. This gives your core a break but still keeps you engaged.
  • Advanced Level: Already a beast? Use this as a finisher after your workout. Add ankle weights or a medicine ball to level up!
