Hey FitFam!
It’s Tjuan’s time this go round, The swole side of your favorite fitness duo, iLivFit. This week, my mom and I stepped out of our typical gym grind and dove into a viral challenge that’s been making waves all over the internet — the Cha Cha Slide Plank Challenge. And let me tell you… this one had us sliding, stomping, hopping, and totally wrecked in the best way possible.
Now before you roll your eyes and think, “That sounds fun but kinda easy,” pump the brakes. That’s exactly what I thought, too. I mean, we’re talking about a remix of a party line dance, right? How hard could it be?
Spoiler alert: HARD.

What is the Cha Cha Slide Plank Challenge?
Simple in theory, brutal in practice. Here’s the breakdown:
- You cue up the legendary Cha Cha Slide by DJ Casper.
- You drop into a full push-up plank position — and stay there the entire time.
- As the lyrics call out the classic dance moves, you translate those into plank-based movements:
- “Right foot let’s stomp” = side stomp your right foot out.
- “Left foot let’s stomp” = left side stomp.
- “Slide to the right” = shuffle your whole body to the right, staying in plank.
- “Slide to the left” = same thing to the left.
- “One hop this time” = jump both feet up at once while your hands stay planted.
- “Cha Cha real smooth” = quarter turn, reset plank, and do it all over again. (Oh yes. Again.)
Round One: Confidence
Me and Mom dropped into plank like it was game time — because it was. The music starts, and we’re grinning. “Right foot let’s stomp” — easy. “Slide to the left” — I got this. “One hop this time” — BOOM, both feet hop up, light work. This is kinda fun! Honestly, the first 60 seconds feels like a warm-up.
Round Two: Reality
By the time we hear, “Time to get funky,” my arms are shaking and my core is yelling at me. Sliding in plank is way more intense than I gave it credit for. Your whole body has to stay locked in, and if your core isn’t bracing like a steel beam, you’re toast.
Now picture hopping in that position. It’s not a cute little bunny hop — you’re exploding up from the balls of your feet while keeping your upper body flat and your hands planted. It’s part push-up, part burpee, part “Why am I doing this to myself?”
And then comes:
“Cha Cha real smooth.”
We quarter-turn in plank, and now everything’s at a different angle. Shoulders, obliques, wrists — everything is activated, and I’m drenched. My mom’s over there still smiling, of course. She’s a beast. But even she admits, “This one’s no joke.”

Why It Works
I’ve done a lot of bodyweight challenges, and most either crush your cardio or blast your core — rarely both. The Cha Cha Slide Plank Challenge hits everything. It’s a hybrid of HIIT and core training that:
- Shreds your abs
- Lights up your shoulders and arms
- Forces constant tension in your glutes and quads
- And cranks your heart rate up FAST
The transitions between moves give zero time to rest, and the changing tempos of the song keep your body guessing. It’s basically a dance party for your entire kinetic chain — and your sweat glands.
Final Thoughts: Who Should Try It?
If you love a challenge and want to spice up your core/cardio routine — this is it. You don’t need any equipment, just floor space, a speaker, and maybe a towel to mop up the aftermath.
Beginner Tip: If you’re just getting into fitness, try doing it in shorter rounds — maybe 30-60 seconds at a time — and work up to the full song.
Advanced Crew: Go full out, big hops, wide slides, sharp stomps — and try to last until the end without breaking plank.

The Verdict
Some workouts look hard but are surprisingly chill. Others look silly… but destroy you. The Cha Cha Slide Plank Challenge? Squarely in the second category.
I walked in cocky. I walked out humbled. And I loved every minute of it.
Me and Mom — the iLivFit crew — are calling this one a certified burner. Add it to your routine, film your own attempt, and tag us. Let’s see who can Cha Cha real smooth without collapsing.
Until next time, stay fit, stay fun, and keep trying wild new things.
