The firefighter rollover pickup maneuver is an essential life-saving technique used to move unconscious individuals to safety. It requires full-body engagement—arms, legs, knees, elbows, core, and most importantly, the back. Here’s a quick breakdown of how I did it:
- Get in Position:
- I started by positioning myself side by side, and weaving my outer leg between his,

- Grip and Brace:
- Using my legs, arms, and core for power, I gripped his outer arm, and began a roll over motion to maneuver his weight on top of me.

- Explosive Lift:
- Here’s where it gets real! Once he is fully on top of me, I have to use my upper body to push him up to a crawl position.

- Balanced Thrust:
- Keeping my back tight and core engaged, I had to use my core to pull my leg under myself, balance my son, and begin a back end dead-lift.

- This is where taking care of your back, stretching, a weight training comes into play! I had to use my legs, and mainly back to lift my 200lb son on to my feet, and out the fire!
