Queen’s Fit Fest Experience with Devyn Walker

This week’s Fit-venture took us to Arlington, TX, where I (Queen), and my son (Tjuan) popped up on an incredible fitness event—Epic Fit Fest! This week’s session was led by none other than Devyn Walker, a young powerhouse in the yoga world, known for her signature Trap Yoga experience. Now listen, don’t let Devyn’s petite frame fool you—this woman knows how to command a room! From the moment she stepped in, she owned the space, guiding us through a high-energy, soul-awakening yoga session infused with trap beats that had us moving, grooving, and pushing our limits.

Week 8 | 2025

Setting the Scene

Originally planned for an outdoor session at Lowe’s Live, the chilly weather forced Fit Fest organizers to pivot and move indoors. The new space—a beautiful glass-walled room—let the golden Texas sun pour in, creating an ambiance perfect for stretching, flowing, and vibing. There were challenges, of course. A few pillars in the room obstructed views, and the acoustics made hearing Devyn a bit tricky at times. But let me tell you, true fitness pros adapt, and that’s exactly what Devyn and Fit Fest did. They made the necessary calls, ensured everyone had space, and kept the energy alive.

Vibe Check | Music & Ambiance

And the music? Oh, the music was on point! DJ Duffey was originally set to helm the booth, but with a new little blessing on the way (congrats, Queen!), another talented DJ took over and kept the vibe immaculate. No complaints there—just pure, uninterrupted flow. The 60 or so patrons in attendance embraced every moment, from warrior poses to spontaneous dance breaks. One second, we were deep in a hip-opening stretch; the next, we were Swag Surfing to the beat. Devyn masterfully blended traditional yoga with a cultural rhythm that spoke to the soul, reminding us that movement is more than just exercise—it’s an expression of self.

The Workout

Now, let’s talk about the workout. Devyn doesn’t believe in baby steps—she jumped straight in! Her cues were quick, her transitions seamless, and you either kept up or got left behind. For first-timers, this could be a bit overwhelming, but she repeated movements often enough that we all went from novices to intermediate yogis in no time. Queen was loving it! Tjuan? Not so much. My boy, who practically lives in the gym, was groaning like an old man as his hips and glutes were put to the test. This was proof that yoga targets muscles in ways weightlifting simply doesn’t!

Despite the quick pacing, the session was well-balanced, with a mix of traditional yoga, Pilates-style burnouts, and hip-hop-inspired movements. There were even moments to twerk—and you better believe Queen got in on that action! The experience was dynamic, challenging, and fun. While the indoor pivot wasn’t ideal, the adjustments made were commendable, and the energy in the room never dipped. For that, I’m giving this experience a solid 5 out of 5. I know, shocking, right? But any minor drawbacks were beyond their control. I’ll definitely need to attend another one of Devyn’s sessions to get the full picture, but as a first-time experience? Absolutely worth it!

What is Epic Fit Fest?

Epic Fit Fest is an up-and-coming fitness movement founded by the legendary DJ Duffey of VH1’s Love & Hip Hop and her powerhouse partners. This isn’t just another fitness event—Epic Fit Fest is a cultural movement. Their mission is to celebrate the strength, beauty, and resilience of minorities by curating fitness experiences that are as uplifting as they are challenging. What sets Epic Fit Fest apart? It’s their commitment to community. This festival proudly spotlights Black-owned businesses, fitness trainers, and food vendors, making it a hub for cultural celebration and wellness. It’s about redefining fitness as a space of inclusion and positivity, where movement meets music, strength meets soul, and every person—no matter their background—feels at home. If you haven’t experienced Epic Fit Fest yet, trust me, you need to.

Beyond being a yoga queen, Devyn Walker is also a part of Transcend Wellness Boutique, a space dedicated to healing and empowerment for BIPOC individuals. At Transcend, Devyn and her team offer individual therapy for adults and teens, group therapy, family therapy, and yoga therapy—where Devyn’s skills truly shine. Their philosophy?
