Bootcamp Burn in Houston: My Workout with Jarrod Bonaparte
Last weekend, my journey brought me to Houston, Texas, where I had the pleasure of attending the Oxibrun Saturday Fitness Bootcamp led by the up-and-coming trainer, Jarrod Bonaparte.
First Impressions
The session was held at Oxigyn Fitness, a black-owned gym that exudes excellence. Walking in, I was immediately impressed by the facility—a massive, well-ventilated space with high ceilings, an open turf area, and garage doors that provided a refreshing flow of air. It’s not every day that I come across such a well-curated fitness establishment owned by one of our very own, and I felt a deep sense of pride seeing it thrive.
Then there was Jarrod Bonaparte, the man of the hour. Tall, slim, toned, and exuding confidence, he carried himself like a trainer who knows his craft. I was eager to see what he had in store for us.

The Workout
Jarrod ran a station-based group fitness class, starting with a solid warm-up to get us loose and ready. We then transitioned into a short outdoor run, just enough to elevate our heart rates before diving into the main event: a leg-focused workout that utilized a variety of gym equipment.
From sled pushes on the turf to weighted squats, explosive jump movements, and resistance band exercises, this workout had every muscle in my lower body screaming. Jarrod pushed us with clear instructions and sharp call-outs, keeping the group engaged. The atmosphere was electric—people feeding off each other’s energy, sweat dripping, and the sound of weights hitting the floor as we powered through the stations.
To cap it all off, we hit an intense group ab session, a nostalgic throwback to my high school sports days. Jarrod’s commanding voice led us through a series of gut-wrenching core exercises, and the synchronized group responses added an element of camaraderie that I hadn’t felt in a while.
The Highlights
There were several aspects of Jarrod’s class that stood out:
✔ Confidence & Energy – Jarrod’s energy was contagious. He knew how to push the group while keeping the vibe upbeat and encouraging.
✔ Facility & Equipment – The Oxigyn Fitness gym provided everything we needed and more. Having access to high-quality equipment in such an open and airy environment made the experience even better.
✔ Group Dynamic – The class had a real team-like atmosphere, where everyone was held accountable and motivated to push through.
✔ Tough but Doable Workout – The workout was intense but scalable. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced athlete, you could modify the movements to fit your level.
Where He Can Improve
While I had a great experience, there were moments where the class lost momentum due to organization. There were times when my heart rate was high, and I was ready to push, but we had to pause while Jarrod figured out the next station or how to transition between exercises. In a high-intensity setting, seamless transitions and a structured flow are key to maintaining energy and engagement. Tightening up this aspect would take his class from great to elite.

Overall, Jarrod Bonaparte is a trainer to watch. He has the talent, charisma, and knowledge to become a major name in the Houston fitness scene. With a bit more structure in his sessions, he could easily take his bootcamps to the next level.
